Day of the Dead

It was a tradition in Mesoamerican cultures to remember those who have passed on through a dedicated altar known as an Ofrenda during the Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos on November 2nd. Many descendents continue these customs in modern times. The Mexican Patriotic Committee has spent 90+ years ensuring these traditions are alive and thriving in Southwest Detroit. Thus, in this year the MPC is sponsoring a local artist to design an Ofrenda that will be displayed at the Rebert Building located in the heart of the community at 7752 W. Vernor, Detroit. Visitors can work on crafts and learn about the culture and the elements that make up the Ofrenda. Visitation are weekdays 12pm-6pm from October 21-Nov 1 Lookout for special programing on November 2 & November 3, 2024
